From December 10 to 12, 2024, the LMC 2024 event was successfully held in Yunnan, China. Invited by Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Center, Guosen Huayuan and representatives of diplomatic and consular missions of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam in China, media and relevant departments went to Pu 'er City and Xishuangbanna Prefecture in Yunnan Province to conduct field research on Tuanshan Reservoir and Xinfang Reservoir to learn about flood control and drought relief, urban water supply and ecological protection. And the operation and dispatching of Nuozhadu and Jinghong hydropower stations in the main stream of Lancang River. The participation aims to join hands with the six countries to jointly cope with climate change and comprehensively improve the capacity of flood and drought disaster prevention in the Lancang-Mekong region.
In the special exchange report, the experts shared the valuable experience and wisdom of Thailand, Laos and China in flood and drought disaster prevention. The parties agreed that frequent floods and droughts in the context of climate change threaten the lives and property of people along the Lancang-Mekong River. It is necessary to strengthen cooperation at the whole basin level, comprehensively improve monitoring and early warning, improve infrastructure systems, make better use of modern information technology, and build a more climate-resilient Lancang-Mekong River.
